Hermanus Whale Watchers in South Africa is a boat-based whale-watching company offering an exciting boat trip showcasing the marine wildlife in the Walker bay Sanctuary in Hermanus, The Marine Eco Trip season lasts from the beginning of December until the end of May.
We offer an exhilarating 90-minute boat trip where you will discover the abundant marine & birdlife of Walker bay while cruising along the rugged coastline.
Our boat, Unathi, is WHEELCHAIR accessible and CHILD-FRIENDLY, The café-style seating is inside a protected cabin fitted with retractable transparent curtains suitable for all weather protection. The bird’s eye view from the upper viewing deck creates ample spectacular photo opportunities.
THE BOAT – Unathi is a 36-seater, 12-meter catamaran with two 380HP inboard diesel engines.
THE CREW: You will be accompanied by a SAMSA registered skipper, a SATOUR registered guide and two trained crew members.

Guiding: An onboard SATOUR-qualified guide on every trip. The crew are all from the local communities with first-hand knowledge of the marine wildlife and recognizable landmarks en route.
The tour starts at our orange-branded crew house, on your right-hand side as you enter the New Harbour in Hermanus. You will receive a warm welcome from Kylin, who will assist with payments and signing of indemnities. Make use of the clean, hygienic toilet and enjoy a complimentary cup of freshly brewed coffee. A guide will then give a short orientation briefing, Life jackets are available for every passenger on the boat but we dress children under 12 years in their life jackets on land and are ready for the 5-minute walk down to the boat. You will fall in love with the beautiful view over Walker bay during the 5-minute walk down to the boat from where we will launch. Once onboard you will receive an orientation briefing bringing you up to date about the trip, the safety and facilities on board as well as the possible marine wildlife we might encounter.
Return to Land:
The boat ride is exhilarating with magnificent landscapes along the route is the perfect end to add to the priceless memories of the close encounters of the marine wildlife in their natural habitat.
